It's a Beautiful Life!

The weather here has been just beautiful and we are loving it! Here is some of what we've been up to...

More Brigham City

Jorg's stepbrother, Jon was married on Saturday. Congratulations, Jon and Jess! I didn't get any great pictures...it was better in real life.
We went bowling after the ceremony. I almost beat Jorg...it was so awesome....Rebecca and Omi...or AHmi (as Rebecca calls her).
It was fun to mingle with Jim's kids. They are so friendly and warm.

Bathing Beauty

(She gets those red marks every once in a while and then they go away really fast. I am thinking she has a minor allergy to bananas.)

This beautiful hair-do was Steph's doing. She is living with us for a little while and we love it! She's such a cute aunt and another plus is that she's making me exercise with her.

Viva Las Vegas!

I only remembered to whip out the camera once. We had such a great time! Jim and Birgit came to stay with Rebecca for a night and we were off to the big city. It was so relaxing and wonderful to spend time and make memories with my best friend.

Valentine Princess Party

The Peterson Girls hosted the cutest party! Their little girls were there and a few girls from the neighborhood. The girls ate heart shaped sandwiches on a beautiful table, did crafts, danced, and had so much fun! Thanks, Natalie, Stephanie, and Lisa!

Valentine of the Year

My Aunt Kay has an annual party at her place! It has been a long standing tradition (30+years). Each family chooses their "Valentine of the Year" and writes a tribute to that person, usually in the form of a poem. Then, we have dinner where the special person gets to eat on a "special plate" and gets served first. It's a wonderful celebration of love!

This year our little family chose...guess who...as our Valentine of the year:

I forgot to add a stanza of the poem. It goes like this:
"Our Valentine likes to pass out treats,
The kind that come from the heart.
Her treat is called the "huggie",
Showing love is what sets her apart."
Happy Valentines Day! Here's wishing you many "huggies"!

"Sadow!"

Peter Pan has been great for her imagination!

She loves pretending she can fly and she looks for her shadow all day long.
In these pictures she told me she was "wasING" her "sadow". We Like It!

Growing Up...

...I remember my sentimental mom looking at us kids, sitting at the counter, with a tear in her eye (it happened quite often). And she would tell us that one of her dreams was always to be a mom and to see all of her kids sitting at the counter. And we would kind of go,
"yah, yah, yah, mom..."
I caught a glimpse of what she meant, watching my own little sweetheart sitting there the other day. I had that same little tear gleaming in my eye as I sat across from her, handing her things, taking care of the dishes, talking to her, just like my mom used to do.

(she still sits in her high chair to eat...she's not that advanced yet...)
I love being a mom to this little precious girl!

On Happiness...

It's funny, I wrote this post a few days ago and set it to pop up tonight. What I didn't realize is what my Tanya friend told me,
today was supposed to be the most depressing day of the year.
I guess that's why we need these articles!

He starts his talk with this story:

"I’m sure it comes as no surprise, but the differences between men and women can often be quite striking—physically and mentally, as well as emotionally. One of the best ways I can think of to illustrate this is in the way my wife and I cook a meal.

When Harriet prepares a meal, it’s a masterpiece. Her cuisine is as wide-ranging as the world, and she frequently prepares dishes from countries we have visited. The presentation of the food is awe inspiring. In fact, it often looks so beautiful that it seems a crime to eat it. It’s as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the sense of taste.

But sure enough, no matter how perfect everything is, looks, and tastes, Harriet will apologize for something she thinks is imperfect. “I’m afraid I used a touch too much ginger,” she will say, or, “Next time, I think it would be better if I used a little more curry and one additional bay leaf.”

Let me contrast that with the way I cook. For the purpose of this talk, I asked Harriet to tell me what I cook best.

Her answer: fried eggs.

Sunny-side up.

But that isn’t all. I have a specialty dish called Knusperchen. The name may sound like a delicacy you might find at an exclusive restaurant. Let me share with you how to make it. You cut French bread into small slices and toast them twice.

That is the recipe!

So, between fried eggs, even when they are greasy, and Knusperchen, even when they are burned, when I cook, I feel pretty heroic.

Perhaps this contrast between my wife and me is a slight exaggeration, but it illustrates something that may extend beyond preparing meals.

To me it appears that our splendid sisters sometimes undervalue their abilities—they focus on what is lacking or imperfect rather than what has been accomplished and who they really are.

Does he know women, or what? Great talk...enjoy!

Omi and Grandpa came and brought Rebecca a sled! We took her to a little hill on the side of our house. She loved it and said, "more" before she even reached the bottom of the hill.
